The International Award for Innovation, Quality and Excellence in Tourism


Title theme of the 2022 call: "Innovative Cycling Experiences"

For the eleventh time, the Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre is presenting the Jakob Award at the Alpe-Adria 2022 Fair. The theme of this year's Innovative Cycling Experiences call includes projects that, as an outdoor industry of active, green tourism, offer cycling as an opportunity for tourism development in the Alpe-Adria region. On the one hand, these projects are designed responsibly and in symbiosis with the natural environment, and on the other hand, they also contain or supplement an other destination offer. For the participants, they definitely mean the experience of a new, innovative contents.

We are inviting all bidders whose projects meet the following criteria to participate:

  • They offer an experience for participants through innovative approaches;
  • They supplement or also contain an other destination offer;
  • They are designed responsibly and in symbiosis with the natural environment;
  • They take into account the protection of the natural environment;
  • They are carried out professionally and safely for the participants;
  • They have all the necessary formal consents.


The International Expert Commission will take into account all the implemented/operating projects that will include the called theme. The legal entities that are not exhibitors at the fair can also participate in the competition for the Jakob Award.

The a
pplication deadline is February 10, 2022. 

The Commission:
prof. dr. Janez Bogataj, President (Slovenia); Marko Lenarčič (Slovenia); Lojze Wieser (Austria) and Jožko Sirk (Italy).

The Five Best Projects
The Commission will select five best already implemented projects, the best of which will receive the Jakob Award for 2022 and the title of the AMBASSADOR of innovative cycling experiences.

The Award Ceremony
The Jakob Award for the year 2022 will be presented at the opening of the Alpe-Adria Fair.

The winner receives

  • The Jakob 2022 Diploma.
  • The Jakob Award 2022 Sculpture.
  • The free-of-charge and unfurnished fair space in the size of 9 m2 for the presentation of the awarded project.
  • The possibility of a one-year publishing of the project description on the Alpe-Adria website.
  • The publishing of the project in a professional journal published by the Slovenian Tourist Board.
  • A one-page description of the project in the official fair publication.

The other four finalists also receive diplomas. Descriptions of their projects are published on the Alpe-Adria Fair website.
All other participants in the call receive a diploma for the participation. They are listed on the fair website to have participated in the call.

The winner of the Jakob 2020 Award

The International Commission unanimously awarded the Jakob 2020 Award and the title of The Ambassador of Innovation in Tourism for the Field of Innovative Tourist Content and Programs in Castles and Mansions 2020 to the Castles of Posavje Program. From the justification of the commission: »The castles of the Posavje are connected with their various contents into a joint project. This connection is exceptional and innovative for the general Slovenian circumstances, where we often close ourselves behind the castle walls. The Castles of the Posavje are thus looking for their new identities and developing contact with the local and regional cultural environment.«

The commission for the Jakob 2020 Award chose the top five programs as follows:

The winner of the Jakob 2019 Award

The Jakob 2019 Award on the topic of The New Sustainable Forms of Hunting and Fishing Tourism and Wildlife Observation in Their Natural Environments was awarded to the project Your Next Unforgettable Day at the Fonda Fish Garden of the Fonda.si company.
