The Jakob award 2021

The International Award for Innovation, Quality and Excellence in Tourism

Title of the call for 2021: »Cheesemaking - an Opportunity for Tourism in the Countryside«

The modern development of cheesemaking has shown not only many new technological possibilities, but this activity is increasingly interesting for getting to know today's mountain and valley world, which means an important component of modern tourist experiences and insights. The development of cheesemaking is also a stimulator of the souvenir offer, it enables new flavours in gastronomy and helps understand man's attitude towards the natural environment, which is of fundamental importance for cheese as a produce.

The International Expert Commission will take into account all those implemented/operating projects that will include the called topic. The description should not emphasize cheesemaking technology, but the fact that cheesemaking has become an opportunity for the development of rural tourism, getting to know the countryside and bringing the countryside closer to the urban population.

He companies that are not exhibitors at the fair can also participate in the competition for the Jakob Award.

The winner of the Jakob 2020 Award

The International Commission unanimously awarded the Jakob 2020 Award and the title of The Ambassador of Innovation in Tourism for the Field of Innovative Tourist Content and Programs in Castles and Mansions 2020 to the Castles of Posavje Program. From the justification of the commission: »The castles of the Posavje are connected with their various contents into a joint project. This connection is exceptional and innovative for the general Slovenian circumstances, where we often close ourselves behind the castle walls. The Castles of the Posavje are thus looking for their new identities and developing contact with the local and regional cultural environment.«

The commission for the Jakob 2020 Award chose the top five programs as follows:

1) The Expert Tour of Raka Castle
2) The Podsreda Castle - Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow
3) Where History Comes to Life – The Bled Castle
4) The Trebnik Manor between the Past and the Present
